State Government Promotes Self-Attestation for Most Documents, Except a few issued by LRDM Department

In a significant step toward simplifying administrative procedures and promoting citizen-centric governance, the State Government has announced a new policy enabling self-attestation of most documents. The policy aims to streamline processes and reduce dependency on attestation by Gazetted Officers.

  1. Exclusions: While self-attestation is permitted for most documents, the following sensitive documents must still be verified and attested by designated authorities such as District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, or Gazetted Officers from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management (LRDM) Department:

    • Sikkim Subject Certificate

    • Certificate of Identification

    • Residential Certificate

    • Land Records Certificates/Documents

  2. Accountability:

    • Any false attestation or authentication of documents will be treated as forgery under Sections 463, 464, 24, and 25 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

    • Applicants must submit a self-declaration form as specified in Annexure-A of the notification.
